Abundant Water Resources

If all of the water in the Great Lakes was emptied into the lower 48 states, it would submerge the country in almost 10 feet of water from coast to coast. Astronauts standing on the moon said that they could see the lakes from space and recognize the familiar the mitten of Michigan bounded by lakes Michigan, Huron and Erie.
Lake Erie: Ninety-five percent of Lake Erie's total inflow of water comes via the Detroit River from Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, and the many tributaries that feed these bodies of water. Of all the five Great Lakes, water is replaced in the shortest amount of time in Lake Erie, only about 2.6 years as compared to almost two centuries for Lake Superior, 99 years for Lake Michigan, 22 years for Lake Huron, and 6 years for Lake Ontario.
